On Campus Housing and Dining

A ZIMFEST PASS covers room, meals, all concert tickets and unlimited workshops. It may be the way to take in more of Zimfest AND to save money. Housing will be provided in the following dorms: Harrington Hall, Regester Hall, Seward Hall and Trimble Hall. Harrington Hall is the “quiet dorm” for this year's festival. The Mbira Gathering each night will be in the ground floor lounge of Seward Hall.


Zimfest participants must purchase meals in advance. Only a very limited number will be available for purchase at on-site registration or mealtimes. UPS runs their own catering service, and has a reputation for excellent food with many vegetarian options. Information about the food offerings at UPS can be found here.

The University has just completed construction of a brand-new kitchen that will be in operation during the summer of 2014. However, the serving area will be undergoing renovation, requiring meals to be served in a temporary location. Zimfest participants will dine in the Tahoma Room of Commencement Hall, with food served buffet style (rather than cafeteria style) in the Commencement Hall foyer outside the Tahoma Room. The food will be the same quality food that has come to be expected from the University of Puget Sound, it will just be served in a different manner.

During the week, University of Puget Sound students operate a coffee and espresso bar, Diversions Café, located in Wheelock Student Center. Coffee, espresso drinks, Italian sodas, juices and a variety of pastries will be available for purchase Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. As a favor to Zimfest participants, UPS Conference Services has informed us that the Café will also be open on Saturday and Sunday, July 26 and 27th, from 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.


Most rooms in Harrington, Regester and Seward Halls are double occupancy with a few singles, and in some cases, triple occupancy. Rooms in Trimble Hall consist of single rooms in a suite setting. Harrington and Regester Halls are co-ed dorms with male and female bathrooms on each floor: in Seward, each floor will have a male and female bathroom that will be designated shortly before the festival. Harrington Hall

Harrington Hall is located on the North Quad, in the opposite direction from the main UPS entrance than the other dorms Zimfest will be using (but not far!). Harrington offers mostly two-person rooms, with several larger three-person rooms available. This dorm has been designated the “quiet dorm” for Zimfest 2014.

Regester Hall

Regester Hall on the South Quad offers mostly double occupancy rooms and a small number of singles, with several lounge areas. Regester residents look out onto the south quad on one side, and onto 13th Street on the other.

Seward Hall

Seward Hall, located on the South Quad, is closer to the Memorial Field House than any other residence hall. Connected to Regester Hall, Seward offers mainly double-occupancy rooms, with a few singles and triples available. The Late Night Mbira Gatherings will take place in the ground floor lounge of Seward each night, starting after the evening concerts and going until the wee hours of the morning.

Trimble Hall

Trimble Hall, on the north arm of the South Quad, is the closest dorm to Wheelock Student Center. Rooms in Trimble Hall consist of single rooms in a suite setting. There are primarily 4, 5 or 6-person suites, each with a shared kitchenette, bathrooms, living and dining areas. Please be advised that you will need to bring your own pots and utensils for cooking in the kitchenettes.

Linen Packages

In Harrington, Regester and Seward Halls, rooms may be rented with or without linen. The linen package includes a daily towel exchange in addition to: one pillow; two blankets; two flat sheets; one pillowcase; one bath towel; one hand towel; and one washcloth. If a room is rented with linen, all beds in that room will have linen (and vice versa).
Trimble Hall rooms come with “VIP Linen” only, which includes the above linen items, with beds made up upon arrival. Larger, more luxurious towels are provided. Towels for the entire stay are delivered before check in time to each bedroom; additional towels may be requested at any time. Guests staying in Trimble Hall also receive a special chocolate treat on their pillows at check in!

Internet Access

Each room is equipped with free, high-speed internet access. Instructions for accessing wi-fi are located in an information binder provided in each room. Apple or PC computers are available for use in several computer labs on campus. Contact the Conference Services office for login information (253.879.3483).

All housing and meals registration must be completed and paid for by Wednesday, July 9, 2014.

Sorry, no RV Camping at UPS

There will be no RV camping available on or adjoining the University of Puget Sound campus. Go here for a list of the RV and tent camping sites closest to UPS.

Important Info about Housing Check-in

Housing check-in by UPS Conference Services will be set up at the registration area in Wyatt Hall. See Festival Schedule for times when housing check-in staff will be available. After hours check-in must be arranged by notifying Zimfest staff at housing@zimfest.org. We will notify UPS Conference Services of your expected arrival time. If you arrive before 5 PM on Wednesday July 23 you should go to Room 230, Wheelock Center, the Conference Services office for housing and dining check-in. If you expect to arrive after 5 PM any day, you will go to UPS Security Services at 3206 N. 15th St. Their office is located in a house on the SW corner of N. 15th St. and Alder St., right at the main entrance to campus.

Lost Key Charge: A $30.00 fee for each room key and a $30.00 fee for each building pass card will be charged.
Do not forget to turn in your key and card upon departure!
