July 24-27 — University of Puget Sound — Tacoma, WA
Zimfest 2014 will be held on the campus of the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington on July 24-27. The Zimfest registration area will be located in the beautiful Susan Resneck Pierce Atrium in Wyatt Hall. Workshop registration, housing check-in, and volunteer signup can all be carried out here. Wyatt is at the southern end of the Union Avenue/Thompson Hall parking lot, across Todd Field from most of the Zimfest dorms in the South Quad (go to On-Campus Housing and Meals for details about the dorms and meals). The outdoor stage and marketplace will be located on Wyatt Lawn, the large grassy expanse between Wyatt Hall and Union Avenue, so this area of the UPS campus will truly be the hub for Zimfest activities.
Dance workshops will take place in the Dance Studio in Pamplin Memorial Fieldhouse; all other workshops will be in the Music Building as well as Thompson, Commencement, Howarth, Jones and Wyatt Halls. Schneebeck Concert Hall in the Music Building is the site for evening concerts Thursday through Sunday. Go to Campus Map for the exact location of all buildings being used for Zimfest 2014, as well as parking. Parking is free in designated UPS parking lots for all festival attendees. The University asks that you refrain from parking on neighborhood streets surrounding campus, as there is plenty of parking on campus.
Zimfest 2014 will begin with the free Thursday night Opening Ceremony, followed by the ticketed Opening Night with MOKOOMBA concert. Both will take place in Schneebeck Concert Hall.
On Friday morning, the festival kicks into full gear with three sessions of workshops, the Marketplace, and afternoon and evening concerts. Check out the Zimfest Panel Discussion Saturday morning in Schneebeck Concert Hall, followed by two workshop sessions.
Workshops, the Marketplace and concerts on the Day Stage will continue on Saturday and Sunday. For a schedule of all festival concerts, go to Concerts Schedule. For workshop information, go to Workshops (List).
On Sunday morning after breakfast, the Village Meeting will be held in Rausch Auditorium in McIntyre Hall. This is a time for us to hear from the Zimfest Association Board, the community and our teachers. Go to Festival Schedule for a full schedule of all events and times.
For more information on Thursday Prefest, the Panel Discussion, Village Meeting and the Mbira Gatherings, please go to Festival Events.
You must first go to Add a Participant and fill out that page. Once that is complete you will be able to register for housing, meals, workshops, concerts and volunteer jobs. Consider getting a ZIMFEST PASS to save money while taking in more of the festival.
