Welcome to the homepage for the Zimbabwean Music Festival, also known as Zimfest, an annual celebration of Zimbabwean music and culture. Please join us this year at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, just down I-5 from Seattle and minutes from SeaTac International Airport. We have some exciting events planned for you this year, so come help us celebrate the 23rd annual Zimbabwean Music Festival! This year’s festival theme is Forward with the Past, represented in chiShona as Pamberi NeChinyakare and isiNdebele as Pambile nga Masiko. We think that’s a great summary of the Zimfest mission to uphold, support and present the many musical traditions of Zimbabwe, and aptly describes the exciting musical directions taken by Zimfest 2014 musicians! What's new for Zimfest 2014?

Zimfest is a music festival created by the people who love Zimbabwean music. The first festival was organized in Seattle in 1991 by a small committee of former students of the late Dr. Dumisani Maraire, the dynamic Zimbabwean musician who first introduced marimba and mbira music to the Pacific Northwest. In the ensuing years, Zimfest has grown and thrived through the energy of hundreds who give with their heads, hands and hearts. Volunteers work on all aspects of the festival, from the planning stages to on-site labor supporting festival operations. We—the people—work with the not-for-profit Zimfest Association to plan, organize and run this festival! We think this is a really great thing, and you are warmly invited to be part of the festival in this way. Go to the Volunteer List to sign up for your shift.
